Pineapple Cake(Feng Li Su) 鳳梨酥

Have you heard about Pineapple cake (Feng Li Su)? It’s like, super cool and has a really interesting history. So, back in the day during the Japanese colonial era, Taiwan’s economy was all about pineapples. The Japanese peeps brought lots of different kinds of pineapples and made loads of factories to process them.

By the late 1930s, Taiwan was like, the third-biggest producer of pineapples in the whole world. That’s like, so awesome, right? And guess what? Local bakeries were like, “Hey, let’s use all these extra pineapples in our pastries.” And that’s how pineapple cakes came to be!

At first, they were like, fancy ceremonial food, but then the government and the whole world started talking about them, and they got super famous. Now, they’re one of the most popular souvenirs you can get in Taiwan. People just love them!
